Most WheelMates connection and crash reports from launch week were addressed in Firevolt hotfixes between 1 and 9 September 2026. First: update the game, restart Steam, and match the version number at the bottom-left of the main menu. “Missing auth token” and “connect external token validation” are Steam-platform phrases, not documented WheelMates-specific errors.1

Steam login, auth token, and “can’t connect to host”

Firevolt’s 1 September hotfix was titled “Login Issue Fixed” and asked players to restart Steam and update. The 4 September hotfix improved Steam start, online login, and lobby reliability. Searches for missing auth token, error login, login failed, and connect external token validation did not turn up WheelMates-specific documentation — treat them as generic Steam session errors.1

  2. Confirm both PCs show the same version string at the bottom-left of the main menu.1
  3. Turn off VPN/proxy and allow Steam overlay. Compare GPU/OS with the Steam minimum spec.3

Fatal Error, Intel AI Boost, and softlocks

  • Local co-op Fatal Error: Firevolt’s 5 September hotfix says local mode should no longer crash.1
  • Community report (not an official guide): some Intel Core Ultra PCs needed Intel AI Boost disabled in Device Manager. The 4 September hotfix also targeted Intel AI Boost startup crashes.14
  • Softlocks called out in patches: Backyard/Shed progression, Neuro-Void collisions, Garage buttons, three-antenna puzzle, Rope Swing missing for joiners.1
  • Player workaround (not endorsed by Firevolt): host resets the area in local co-op, then returns to online.4
