WheelMates is always two players — local split-screen or online. The owner buys the game; a friend installs the free Friend’s Pass app and joins with a lobby code. Cross-play with consoles is not announced. There is no in-game voice chat.123

How to invite a friend with Friend’s Pass

These three steps match Firevolt’s pinned Steam post “HOW TO INVITE A FRIEND WITH FRIEND’S PASS.”3

  1. Owner installs WheelMates. Friend installs the free WheelMates Friend’s Pass app and launches it.3
  2. Owner: PLAY → PLAY ONLINE → HOST, then copy the INVITE CODE. Friend: PLAY → FRIEND'S PASS → ENTER THE CODE.3
  3. When the friend appears in the lobby, start the game. Both players should match the version number at the bottom-left of the main menu.34

Split-screen, 4 players, controllers, reviews

  • 4 players split screen is not supported. Firevolt has no plans for more than two players.2
  • Steam lists Partial Controller Support plus DualShock 4 and DualSense. Keyboard and mouse work on PC. Local co-op pad issues were acknowledged and patched in early September hotfixes.14
  • Cross-platform play with consoles is not announced.12
  • Steam reviews as of 16 September 2026: 539 reviews, 400 positive / 139 negative (Mostly Positive).5
  • Family Sharing plus Friend’s Pass can fail (“lobby can’t be found”). Firevolt called that a known issue.6
